Minecraft Bedrock. The Server, not the block.

My kids and I have been playing Minecraft for at least five years or so now. As of this writing they’re 8 & 10. Devices have come and gone. My son & I wax nostalgic about some of the worlds we’ve explored and built in. Some of that is about the adventures – some is about the things we’ve built. We’ve used phones, tablets and now an Xbox.

Minecraft approached it’s 10 year Anniversary and the release of Minecraft Dungeons which the three of us eagerly played through all available map. I began to wonder if I could simply start a family Minecraft Server of my own and use it as an Archive of all of the worlds we’ve created.

This post is retroactive as I have to date successfully established a Bedrock Server on a high-end PC Tower. My son & I have been exploring and building from our phones, tablets and the Xbox. At home and remotely. This has been super awesome. Not only are we freed from a device specific world – but also a Microsoft Username. We can login and build or explore independently. We still play together of course but it’s nice to jump in and discover my son has built something else in my absence. And vice versa of course.

This post kicks off a series about my quest to build a Minecraft Server on a Windows machine. A place where we can store and play all worlds from all devices.
